Tulaigh Ocht · Co. Kilkenny

A village so small it barely notices you. South Kilkenny, where the land still knows what matters.

Tullahought is a village that doesn't advertise itself. Population ~170, give or take. It sits in Owning parish in south Kilkenny, near the borders where one county ends and another begins. There are no pubs famous for sessions, no restaurants with reviews, no castle ruins marked on the map. What you get is what you see: a place where ordinary life happens quietly, where people know each other, and where a visitor is neither expected nor unwelcome.

The Irish name, Tulaigh Ocht, speaks to the land itself—a place of meaning rooted in the earth, not in tourism. This is south Kilkenny as it was: small communities tied to farming, to parish, to the rhythm of the seasons. The nearest larger towns are Knocktopher to the north and Waterford over the border. If you come here, come because you want to understand what a village is when it isn't trying to be something else.

The boundaries that hold this place

Owning parish

Tullahought sits within Owning parish, one of the quieter parishes of south Kilkenny. The parish boundaries have held for centuries, and with them the sense of place. Owning connects Tullahought to the larger story of the Nore valley and the medieval history of the south, but from here, the history is lived in names and land, not in monuments. The parish is the thing that keeps the place bound together.
