Arless is a very small village in the south of Co. Laois, near the border with Co. Carlow. The settlement consists of a few scattered houses, a farm or two, and the kind of quiet that comes from being miles from anywhere larger. The name and history are sparse — this is the Ireland of small roads and fewer people.
It exists, and that may be all that can be honestly said. It has a place on maps, a place in the postal system, and a place in the lives of the people who live here. Beyond that, you are reading the margins of a much larger story.
Arless is in Co. Laois, between Ballylinan and the Carlow border. About 75 minutes from Dublin on the M9 and local roads.
