Local Tips
The ferry pier is at the bottom of the hill in the Harbour hamlet. If you’re catching a morning crossing to Inis Oírr (twenty minutes each way) or Inis Mór (about an hour), aim to arrive at the pier with time to spare rather than rushing from the car. Ferries leave when they leave.
Inis Oírr is the closest island and the natural day-trip from Doolin - you can hire a bike at the pier when you arrive and cover the island in a few hours, back in time for the evening session. Inis Mór is further and better reached from Rossaveal near Galway if you want a full day there.
If your ferry is weather-delayed or cancelled (the phrase ‘weather-permitting’ does real work on this pier), spend the afternoon well: the Doolin Pier Loop is a 3 km walk that takes forty minutes, or head south on the coastal path toward the Cliffs of Moher. You get the same cliff edge without the visitor-centre queue.
The village has four pubs - Gus O’Connor’s on Fisher Street, McGann’s and McDermott’s up at the Roadford crossroads, and Fitzpatrick’s at Hotel Doolin. Sessions run most nights. Gus O’Connor’s on a Sunday afternoon, from around 4pm, is a good way to wait out a delayed departure.
