Your chauffeur meets you in the arrivals terminal at Dublin Airport, or at your pickup point in the city, and takes you directly to Dromoland Castle in County Clare. It’s a private, door-to-door transfer with no shared passengers - your luggage is taken care of, and you settle in for the journey straight away.
The drive west takes you through the Irish midlands and into Clare, and by the time you reach Dromoland you’ve had a proper rest rather than a stressful navigation session. Dromoland is one of Ireland’s great castle hotels, and arriving by private car rather than a crowded coach is a fitting start.
The same transfer works in reverse if you’re heading back to Dublin city or the airport. Just let the operator know your pickup location and travel date when you book.
Give yourself time to explore Clare before check-in. The drive from Dublin to Dromoland takes roughly two to two and a half hours depending on traffic, so if you’re arriving with energy to spare, ask your driver to take the scenic route through Ennis, the county town. It’s a short detour and gives you a proper first taste of Clare before the castle gates appear.
Dromoland sits on the shores of Lough Dromoland and has its own falconry and golf course. If the weather is kind when you arrive, the grounds are worth a slow walk before you unpack. The lake walk in particular is a good way to shake off any travel stiffness.
County Clare is worth at least a day or two beyond the castle. The Burren is about 45 minutes from Dromoland and is unlike anywhere else in Ireland - a limestone karst landscape with rare wildflowers growing out of the rock. The Cliffs of Moher are a further 20 minutes from there and are genuinely dramatic in good weather.
For an evening drink before dinner, the village of Newmarket-on-Fergus is just ten minutes from the castle. It’s a quiet spot, but The Cock & Bull and a handful of local pubs are worth knowing about if you’d rather not eat in the castle restaurant every night.
