Your chauffeur will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a name card so you’ll spot them straight away. They track your flight electronically and time the pickup to match your actual arrival, not just your scheduled one - so there’s no rushing the moment you land.
You get a full hour of complimentary waiting time at the airport. The journey down to Killaloe in County Clare runs in a Mercedes Benz E220 Executive Class, which is comfortable and quiet and roomy enough for up to 3 passengers with luggage. The vehicle and chauffeur are fully licensed and insured under the Irish Government Transport Authority. All fees, taxes, and tolls are included in the price.
Killaloe sits at the southern tip of Lough Derg, where the Shannon widens out into one of Ireland’s largest lakes. It’s a pretty village with a heritage that goes back centuries - Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland, had his seat nearby at Kincora, and the cathedral in the village is worth a look when you arrive. The bridge between Killaloe and Ballina (its County Tipperary neighbour on the other bank) gives you a lovely view of the river and the hills beyond.
Lough Derg is an excellent base for a few days if you’re not just passing through. There’s good walking, rowing, and water sports, and the lough itself stretches north as far as Portumna in County Galway. A boat trip on the Shannon gives you a perspective of the landscape you simply can’t get from the road.
The village of Killaloe has a handful of good pubs and restaurants right on the waterfront. Goosers Bar is a popular spot with locals and visitors alike and sits right on the river. If the weather is decent, there’s outdoor seating and a view of the boats passing through the lock.
Ennis, the Clare county town, is about 30 minutes from Killaloe and worth a visit. It’s one of the best traditional music towns in the country, with sessions in the pubs most nights of the week. If you’re in Clare for more than a night or two, it’s an easy and rewarding evening out.
