If you’re flying into Dublin and making your way to Cork, this makes a lot more sense than a straight airport transfer. Your private chauffeur picks you up at Dublin Airport and heads south through Tipperary, stopping at three of Ireland’s most visited historical sites before dropping you in Cork.
The Rock of Cashel sits on a limestone outcrop above the Tipperary plain and has been a landmark for over a thousand years - you can see it from miles around before you even get to the gates. Cahir Castle is one of the largest and best-preserved medieval castles in the country, sitting on a rocky island in the River Suir. And Blarney Castle, a few kilometres northwest of Cork city, comes with the famous stone and the castle gardens around it.
The vehicle is fully licensed and insured under the Irish Government Transport Authority. You travel in your own private group - no other passengers - with WiFi and charging throughout.
Book your castle admissions in advance where you can. Blarney Castle in particular gets busy in summer, and buying tickets online before you arrive saves queuing time. Admission is not included in this transfer, so sort that separately and your chauffeur can time the stops to suit.
The Rock of Cashel is at its best on a clear day. The 360-degree views from the top of the rock, across the Golden Vale of Tipperary, are the real reward once you’ve taken in the cathedral ruins and the round tower. Wear comfortable shoes as the path up is uneven in places.
Cahir is one of the least crowded of the three stops and often the most pleasant. The castle sits right in the centre of the town, and if you have a little extra time, the main street has a few good spots for coffee and something to eat before getting back on the road to Cork.
Cork city is well worth an evening or two if your schedule allows. The English Market in the city centre is one of the finest covered food markets in Ireland, and the area around Princes Street and Oliver Plunkett Street has no shortage of good restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance.
