10-Day Ultimate Small-Group Tour of Ireland from Dublin

About This Tour

Ten days is long enough to let Ireland settle in properly - not just the famous views, but the feeling of the place. This tour takes you north to south and covers the ground that most visitors only manage pieces of: the Atlantic drama of the Cliffs of Moher, the strange geology of the Giant’s Causeway, the lakes and mountains of Killarney National Park, and the wild coastline of Donegal. One night is spent in a real Irish castle - and it’s one of the genuine highlights of the whole trip.

Along the way you’ll walk across the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge above the Antrim coast, visit Ross Castle by the lakes of Killarney, and take in the clifftop drama of Slieve League in Donegal. There’s a whiskey tasting at Ardara Distillery, which is a small Donegal operation with a very good story behind it.

Everything moves by air-conditioned Mercedes Sprinter, with a qualified Irish tour guide on board from start to finish - and local guides joining at key stops to add depth you wouldn’t get from a single person covering the whole country. Accommodation for 9 nights is in boutique hotels and guesthouses that the team has personally selected; breakfast is included every day. Maximum group size is 15, which makes a real difference to the feel of the trip.

Local Tips

The small group size is one of the most underrated things about this tour. Fifteen people feels very different from fifty. You’ll actually get to speak with your guide properly, and at busy sites like the Cliffs of Moher you’ll be able to move around more freely than the large coach groups can. If you’re the type who finds big group tours overwhelming, this format is worth the price difference.

Donegal is the part of Ireland that catches people by surprise. Most visitors to Ireland never get this far northwest, and the landscape is unlike anything you’ll see in Kerry or Clare. Slieve League is less famous internationally than the Cliffs of Moher but actually taller - and on a clear day with a small group, you get a completely different experience than the major tourist sites further south.

Ardara Distillery in Donegal is a genuinely small operation. This isn’t a slick visitor experience with a gift shop the size of an aircraft hangar - it’s a real working distillery with a story worth hearing. Go easy on the tasting if you’ve got driving on the itinerary, though your guide will handle all of that.

Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge has a height limit on the number of people who can cross at once. The team accounts for this in the planning, but it’s worth knowing that you might need to wait a little. The views from the cliff path on either side of the bridge are excellent regardless.

Pack lighter than you think you need to. You’ll be moving between boutique hotels and guesthouses every day or two, and hauling a large case in and out of a Mercedes Sprinter gets old quickly. A soft bag that can go in the overhead or under the seat makes the whole trip run more smoothly.
