Dublin Ghost Hunt Exploration Game and Tour

About This Tour

Rather than following a guide, you use the Questo app on your phone to solve clues that lead you from one haunted Dublin location to the next. Crack a clue and the secret story of that place unlocks - audio stories included at each stop.

You’ll visit the National Museum of Ireland (Archaeology), the Theobald Wolfe Tone Statue, St Ann’s Church (connected to both Oscar Wilde and Bram Stoker, author of Dracula), the Olympia Theatre, City Hall, and finish along the River Liffey. Along the way you’ll pick up horror stories, historical mysteries, and the kind of local colour that rarely makes it into standard sightseeing. Wolfe Tone founded the Society of United Irishmen in 1791 with the aim of overthrowing British rule - he was later captured by British forces and died in mysterious circumstances. The app weaves that sort of story through every stop.

There’s no set start time. You can play any time after booking, pause whenever you like, and come back to it later. Kids go free. For groups larger than 15, just make multiple bookings - there’s no capacity issue.

  2. Theobald Wolfe Tone Statue - More than a bronze figure on a plinth. Tone founded the Society of United Irishmen in 1791, aiming to overthrow British rule in Ireland. He was captured by British forces and died in mysterious circumstances. His spirit has a challenge for you. (pass by)
  3. St Ann’s Church - A place of quiet reflection in the heart of the city, connected to both Oscar Wilde and Bram Stoker. Beneath the piety, there’s a darker story waiting. (pass by)

Local Tips

Download the Questo app before you go. You’ll need it to start and the setup takes a couple of minutes. Do it over WiFi at your accommodation, create your account using the booking email address, and you’re ready to start the moment you reach the National Museum.

Evening is genuinely the best time for this one. A ghost hunt in the dark makes obvious sense, and Dublin’s city centre is well lit and busy enough at night to feel safe while still atmospheric. The Liffey at the end of the route looks particularly good after dark.

Kids go free, which makes this a solid family option. Despite the ghost hunt framing, the audio stories are historical as much as they are spooky - there’s real substance at every stop about the people and events connected to each location. Older children especially tend to get properly into the clue-solving.

You can pause and resume at any point. If it starts raining or someone needs a break, just pause the app. You can pick it back up an hour later or the following morning - there’s no timer running. This makes it a low-pressure option even if you’re not sure how long you’ll last on your feet.

For groups over 15, buy multiple bookings. There’s no capacity problem with the route itself - the app just needs a booking per device. Multiple groups can run simultaneously and compare notes at each stop if you like.
