Dublin Holiday Donut Adventure: Sweet Festive Fun

About This Tour

A festive walk through Dublin city with a very specific purpose: donuts. You’ll cover some of the best spots in the city while sampling some of its most creative baked goods, and the holiday decorations on Grafton Street and O’Connell Street make for a genuinely lovely backdrop.

The tour starts near St. Stephen’s Green at The Rolling Donut, one of Dublin’s original doughnut shops. From there you’ll head past the Luke Kelly statue to George’s Street for a chat about the Vikings and Dublin Castle, then on to a stop for traditional Irish churros - not traditional to Dublin by any means, but very good. You’ll cross the River Liffey, take in the views along the water, stop at The Hot Donut, and walk back up O’Connell Street with a look at the history of the 1916 Rising along the way. The final stop is Offbeat Donuts on Westmoreland Street before finishing on Grafton Street to take in the Christmas decorations.

About 2 miles of walking over 1-2 hours - nothing too demanding, but worth knowing before you come.

Local Tips

Offbeat Donut Co is genuinely creative. If you’ve never come across them before, prepare to have your expectations shifted. They’re not just fancy toppings - the flavour combinations are properly thought through, and they change regularly. It’s a good last stop precisely because it sends you off thinking about donuts differently.

The Luke Kelly statue on Grafton Street is worth a pause. Your guide will point it out along the route. Kelly was one of Ireland’s most celebrated folk musicians and a founding member of The Dubliners - a figure who’s woven into the fabric of Dublin life in a way that goes well beyond music.

The General Post Office stop adds real weight to the tour. It’s easy to walk past and think “nice building,” but once you understand what happened there during the 1916 Rising and its significance to Irish independence, it becomes one of those Dublin landmarks that stays with you. The tour gives you just enough context to make the stop meaningful.

Dress for the weather. This is a festive, winter-season tour, and Dublin in December can be brisk. The good news is you’ll be moving most of the time and warming up at each donut stop, but a decent coat and comfortable shoes will make the whole experience far more enjoyable.

It works well as a family outing. The 2-mile walk is gentle enough for kids, and donuts are a reliable crowd-pleaser. Groups are capped at 20 people so it doesn’t feel chaotic, and the pace is relaxed enough to keep everyone happy along the route.
