If you’re only doing two things in Dublin, make it these two. This 4-hour guided tour brings you through both the Jameson Distillery Bow St and the Guinness Storehouse, back to back, with skip-the-line entry to both so you’re not burning your morning in a queue. Two free drinks come with the ticket - a pint of Guinness and a Jameson whiskey drink - and your guide keeps the whole thing moving with the kind of stories you won’t find on a sign.
Guides lead in English or Spanish, depending on which option you book. Along the way there’s a photo stop outside the oldest pub in Ireland, which dates back to the 11th century and is worth a moment even just from the outside.
Jameson Distillery Bow St - 2 hours
Your tour starts at the birthplace of Irish whiskey - the original Jameson distillery in Dublin’s Smithfield neighbourhood. A tour ambassador walks you through the history, the craft, and the characters behind the world’s most popular Irish whiskey. You’ll hear the stories, take part in an interactive comparative whiskey tasting, and round things off with a complimentary Jameson signature drink.
Guinness Storehouse - 2 hours
From Smithfield you’ll head south to St James’s Gate and the Guinness Storehouse, Ireland’s number one visitor attraction. It’s a converted fermentation plant, and the seven-storey experience inside tells the full story of Ireland’s iconic dark stout. Your guide starts you at the ground-floor Atrium, where you can see a copy of the famous 9,000-year lease signed by Arthur Guinness in 1759, and explains the four ingredients at the heart of every pint: water, barley, hops, and yeast.
You’ll move up through exhibits on brewing and barreling, with virtual displays and original equipment that bring the work of the old coopers to life. Interactive floors cover the key moments in Guinness history and the advertising campaigns that turned a Dublin stout into a global name. The whole thing ends at the Gravity Bar at the top of the building, where your complimentary pint comes with some of the best views Dublin has to offer.
Meeting point: Arthur’s Pub, 28 Thomas Street, The Liberties, Dublin, D08 VF83. Meet your guide in front of St Catherine’s Church, across from Arthur’s Pub. Aim to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled start time.
Start at Smithfield and you’ll find your bearings fast. The Distillery Bow St is right on Smithfield Square, one of Dublin’s bigger open public spaces and well worth a wander before the tour kicks off. There’s a good coffee spot or two around the square if you’re arriving early and need to wake up properly before the whiskey.
The comparative tasting at Jameson is genuinely interesting. They walk you through Irish, Scotch, and American whiskey side by side, and you’ll come away actually understanding the differences rather than just nodding along. It’s one of those hands-on bits that sticks with you.
If you’re planning to linger at the Gravity Bar, go easy during the distillery. That pint at the top of the Storehouse tastes better when you’re taking your time with it. The views on a clear day stretch right across the city, and it’s not a place you want to rush.
The Liberties, where you meet your guide, is one of the oldest parts of the city. Locals have been living and working in this area since the medieval period, and the neighbourhood still has a real character to it. If you’ve got time after the tour, a walk through the Liberties towards Patrick Street takes you past some fine old streetscapes.
Book the Spanish guide option early if that’s what you need. It tends to fill up faster than the English-language sessions, particularly during summer.
