Dublin: Private Chauffeur Tour

About This Tour

If you want to see the real shape of Dublin in a single afternoon, this private minivan tour covers it beautifully. Over four hours you’ll swing through nine stops across the city - from the historic heart of O’Connell Street to the wide green acres of Phoenix Park - with a guide who speaks English, Spanish, or Portuguese, and a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle carrying you between each one.

It’s a private booking, so the pace is yours. No crowds, no group to keep up with, no rushing.

Itinerary

You start on O’Connell Street (20 minutes), taking in the General Post Office and the energy of the city’s main thoroughfare. From there it’s out to Phoenix Park (40 minutes) - one of the largest enclosed parks in any European capital, where deer roam freely and the Wellington Monument and the President’s residence, Áras an Uachtaráin, are both worth lingering over.

Next, a 15-minute stop at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to admire the architecture and soak in the quiet of the grounds, followed by 20 minutes at Dublin Castle to walk the historic courtyards.

Temple Bar gets a proper 40-minute stop - time enough to explore the cobbled streets, duck into a shop or two, and grab a snack at a local café or pub. Trinity College follows (20 minutes), a stroll through one of Ireland’s great historic campuses.

As you travel along Dame Street, you’ll get a view of Dublin Castle and City Hall from the vehicle before a quick 10-minute stop on Grafton Street to take in the street performers and the atmosphere. The tour finishes with 25 minutes at St. Stephen’s Green, a beautiful city park with ponds and plenty of spots to slow right down.

Local Tips

Phoenix Park is bigger than you think. At 1,750 acres it’s one of the largest walled city parks in Europe, and most people only scratch the surface. If you’ve got any time to wander independently during your 40-minute stop, head towards the Papal Cross or the walled Walled Garden - both are quieter and well worth a few minutes on foot.

Temple Bar is best explored slowly. The 40-minute stop here gives you real breathing room. The cobbled streets around Meeting House Square and Cow’s Lane tend to be quieter than the main drag, with independent shops and galleries worth peeking into. If you’re hungry, a toasted sandwich or a bowl of soup at one of the smaller cafés will serve you better than the tourist-facing pubs on the main strip.

Grafton Street’s performers are genuinely good. Dublin’s buskers go through a formal audition process run by Dublin City Council, so the standard on Grafton Street is consistently high. Worth pausing for a few minutes rather than rushing through.

Ask your guide the questions you’d ask a local. Because this is a private booking, your guide can actually answer them. Restaurant recommendations, what’s on that evening, whether a particular attraction is worth your time - that conversation is part of what you’re paying for.
