Dublin Scavenger Hunt and Best Landmarks Self-Guided Tour

About This Tour

This is Dublin explored as a game. You follow a trail of clues from one landmark to the next, using logic, observation, imagination, and a bit of teamwork to work through each puzzle. Along the way you’ll pick up local facts and stories, find yourself down narrow streets and into corners most visitors walk straight past, and cover some of the city’s best-known landmarks - all without a fixed schedule or a group to keep pace with.

Start whenever you like, pause whenever you want, and pick it back up later or even the next day. It works well for couples, families, friend groups, company outings, and students. You can work together as a team or split into groups and make it a competition.

You’ll visit: The Spire, O’Connell Bridge, Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin City Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Church, Fusilier’s Arch, the National Museum, and the Whiskey Museum. Every puzzle uses the outdoor areas of these attractions, so you won’t need to enter any of them or pay extra entry fees.

Local Tips

Download the World City Trail app before you leave your accommodation. Irish mobile data is generally good across the city centre, but having the app ready before you head out saves a bit of faffing around when you’re trying to get started. The app is free to download; your booking reference unlocks the Dublin trail.

The trail covers some genuine distance between landmarks - Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick’s Cathedral are close together in the Liberties, but The Spire and O’Connell Bridge are further north. Good shoes are the main practical thing to sort before you go. Most people complete the full trail in around two hours, but there’s no pressure.

The Liberties section of the trail - around Christ Church Cathedral and Dublin City Hall - is one of the oldest parts of the city, and worth slowing down in. The streets there have medieval bones and a very different feel to the Georgian grid around St. Stephen’s Green. The clues tend to reward people who actually look at what’s around them rather than rushing to the next location.

If you’re turning it into a competition between groups, split up and agree a finishing point rather than just a time. The Whiskey Museum near the end of the trail makes a natural meeting point, and there are plenty of spots nearby to compare notes and declare a winner over coffee or something stronger.

The trail is available in German, English, Italian, French, and Dutch, so it works well for mixed groups where not everyone is most comfortable in English. Select your preferred language in the app when you set up your trail.
