Most visitors to the Guinness Storehouse see the main exhibition and head to the Gravity Bar. The Connoisseur Experience takes you somewhere else entirely - a luxury private bar on the 4th floor, reserved just for this tasting, away from the general crowds.
Your host is an officially trained Guinness Connoisseur, and they walk you through four distinct Guinness variants in sequence: the classic Draught, the Original, the full-bodied Foreign Extra Stout, and one of the rotating Brewers Project brews. Each one comes with its own story and its own pouring ritual. The difference between drinking a Guinness and actually tasting one becomes clear pretty quickly.
The hour wraps up the best way it could - with a complimentary pint in the Gravity Bar, where floor-to-ceiling windows open up a full panoramic view across Dublin’s rooftops. After spending an hour learning what makes each variant tick, that final pint genuinely tastes different.
Get there on the Luas rather than driving. The Red Line drops you at Heuston or James’s - both are a short walk from St James’s Gate. Parking around the Storehouse is genuinely awkward, and the Luas is far less stressful than fighting Liberties traffic.
Do the Connoisseur Experience first, then explore the Storehouse at your own pace. The tasting is a fixed booking, so once it’s done you can wander the rest of the seven-storey exhibition without any schedule pressure. The Advertising Archive floor is worth more time than most people give it.
Eat something beforehand. The four variants plus a full pint is a satisfying amount of Guinness for one hour. A good meal at one of the Liberties spots beforehand makes the experience much more enjoyable.
Take your time with the Gravity Bar pint. It’s included in your ticket, there’s no rush, and the view - from the Wicklow Mountains on a clear day right across to the bay - is genuinely one of the better outlooks in Dublin. Find a window seat if you can.
The Brewers Project variant changes. If you’ve done this experience before, the rotating Brewers Project pour means you’ll likely try something different. Worth knowing if you’re considering a repeat visit.
