Dublin: Teeling Whiskey Distillery Tour & Tasting

About This Tour

The Liberties has been Dublin’s distilling heartland for centuries, and Teeling brought the craft back to these streets when it opened as the city’s first new distillery in over 125 years. This isn’t a museum or heritage centre - it’s a working distillery where you can watch whiskey being made in gleaming copper pot stills and then taste what comes out.

Your guide walks you through every stage of production from grain to glass, explaining the three-pot-still process that gives Teeling its distinctive character. You’ll see the mash tun, the washbacks, the still house, and the cask warehouse, with stories woven in about why Dublin was once the whiskey capital of the world - and how Teeling is carrying that tradition forward.

The tour finishes with a guided tasting of Teeling’s award-winning range, including their signature blend and small batch expressions. After that you’re free to linger at the Bang Bang Bar for cocktails or rare whiskey pours, browse the gift shop, or grab a coffee at the Phoenix Cafe. The whole visit runs about 90 minutes and it’s a genuine highlight for anyone with even a passing interest in Irish whiskey.

Local Tips

Stay for the Bang Bang Bar after the tour. The tasting on the tour covers the core range, but the bar is where you get access to the rarer and older expressions. If you’re genuinely interested in Irish whiskey, this is the part most visitors don’t bother with - and they’re wrong not to.

The Liberties neighbourhood is worth exploring on foot. Newmarket Square itself has good spots for coffee and food, and the surrounding streets have a texture that’s quite different from the tourist-facing parts of the city centre. Thomas Street and Francis Street are both worth a wander.

The exhibition space on Dublin whiskey history is better than it sounds. It’s easy to skip past it to get to the tasting, but the context it gives you about why Dublin’s distilling industry collapsed and how Teeling fits into the revival makes the whole experience more interesting. Give yourself 15 minutes with it.

Pair this with a visit to St Patrick’s Cathedral, which is a 10-minute walk away. The cathedral dates to the early 12th century and the grounds include the grave of Jonathan Swift. It’s one of Dublin’s genuinely significant historic sites and it doesn’t get the attention it deserves from visitors who are focused on the more obvious attractions.

If whiskey is important to you, look into the different tour options Teeling offers - some include more extensive tastings or private experiences. The standard tour is a great introduction, but there’s more available if you want to go deeper.
