Altern 8 [Prodigy & Carl Cox Afterparty]

Altern 8 are UK rave legends whose records from the early 1990s, particularly “Activ 8” and “Frequency,” are still touchstones of the British rave era. They’re playing Wigwam on Middle Abbey Street as the official afterparty for the Prodigy and Carl Cox show elsewhere in Dublin on the same night.

An afterparty for two of the biggest names in UK electronic music history is a good reason to keep the night going. Altern 8 aren’t a nostalgia act playing to a crowd that remembers the originals; they’re a live performance that connects that era of music to where it’s ended up, and they do it with the energy of people who were genuinely part of it.

What to expect

11pm Tuesday at Wigwam, 54 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1. The timing is deliberate: if you’re coming from the main show, this is where the night continues. If you’re not going to the main show, this is a standalone night worth attending.

Wigwam is a well-run venue on Middle Abbey Street, close to the Liffey. It’s the right size for an afterparty: intimate enough to feel like a continuation of something, not so large that the energy dissipates.
