The Abbey Hotel’s Country Music Weekend is one of the most consistently popular events in the Donegal calendar - a full three-day package built around live music, set dancing, and the kind of easy sociability that makes these weekends easy to return to year after year. It runs Friday to Sunday, 11-13 September 2026, and suits anyone who loves country music and wants a ready-made weekend away rather than having to piece one together themselves.
The format is well-worn and it works. Your package covers two nights bed and breakfast at the Abbey Hotel plus access to all the evening dances. The hotel has been running these weekends throughout the year and they draw artists from across the Irish country circuit - past lineups have included names like Patrick Feeney, Jimmy Buckley, Mike Denver, and David James, with the bill typically mixing established headliners with newer acts.
The dances themselves are the heart of it: a big ballroom floor, a proper live band, and a crowd that has mostly come for exactly this reason. You do not need to be an expert dancer - plenty of people are there simply to enjoy the music and the atmosphere. The hotel’s leisure facilities, including a gym and swimming pool, are included in the package, so there is something to do between sessions if you want it.

Donegal Town sits on the N15, roughly 40km south of Letterkenny and about two and a half hours’ drive from Dublin via the M1 and N3. From Belfast, it is approximately two hours on the A5 and N14. Bus Éireann runs services to Donegal Town from Dublin and Sligo; the journey from Dublin takes around three and a half hours. The Abbey Hotel is right on The Diamond - the central square of Donegal Town - so it is impossible to miss once you are in town. Parking is available in the town.
Donegal Town itself is a compact, pleasant base with good restaurants and the ruins of Donegal Castle a short walk from the hotel.
