At An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny · An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal
An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny is running two weeks of free performing arts summer camps for children and young people this July, under the banner of The Viewing Project - a cross-community arts initiative funded by the PEACEPLUS programme. These are not passive drop-in sessions; participants get hands-on experience of acting, theatre-making, and visual arts in a working professional venue. They suit young people who have never stepped onto a stage before just as well as those with a bit of drama experience, and the theatre actively welcomes first-timers who want to try something new in a supportive setting.
The two weeks are pitched at different age groups and run at different times of day. Week One (6-10 July) is for young people aged 8-12, running 10am to 1pm each morning. It is led by facilitator and performer Valerie Bryce and focuses on introduction to performance and mask making - practical, creative work that combines theatrical craft with visual art. Week Two (13-17 July) is for teenagers aged 13-18, running 12pm to 3pm each afternoon, and is led by actress and teacher Andrea Emmett. The focus here is on introduction to performance more broadly. Both weeks are described by the theatre as “high energy and entertaining” occasions where participants learn about acting, theatre, and community through doing.
Registration is through TicketSolve via the An Grianan website. Places are limited and applicants answer a brief question about their performance experience when signing up - this is to help facilitators, not to exclude anyone. Both camps are completely free of charge.
The Viewing Project itself runs from autumn 2025 to summer 2027 and aims to engage over 300 participants across Donegal and border regions, building connection through creative arts work.
