Your chauffeur will be at the arrivals terminal with your name card, or can pick you up from your Dublin city location. From there it’s a private, comfortable run west - through the midlands and into County Mayo - to Ashford Castle in Cong. No shared coaches, no stops for other passengers, no detours.
The transfer runs in a Mercedes Benz E220 Executive Class, suited for up to 3 passengers with luggage. The vehicle and chauffeur are fully licensed and insured under the Irish Government Transport Authority. All fees, taxes and tolls are covered, so there are no surprises on arrival.
The drive west from Dublin takes you through some genuinely changing scenery. You’ll leave the city behind on the M6, move through the flat open midlands, and then start to feel the landscape shift as you head into Connacht - bigger skies, wilder land, the Partry Mountains coming into view as you near Cong. It’s around 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic, and it’s not a bad journey to settle into.
Cong itself is a small village on the narrow strip of land between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Most people know it as the filming location for John Ford’s 1952 film The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara, and the village leans into that history warmly. There’s a Quiet Man museum and walking trail if you’ve got time before or after your stay.
Ashford Castle dates to 1228 when it was built by the Anglo-Norman de Burgo family. It passed through various hands over the centuries before becoming a hotel. The estate covers 350 acres on the shores of Lough Corrib, and the grounds include a nine-hole golf course, a falconry school, and access to some of Ireland’s best wild brown trout fishing.
If you’re arriving in the evening, it’s worth knowing that the roads around Cong get dark quickly and signage is sparse once you leave the main routes. Your chauffeur knows the way, but if you’re planning any exploring by car afterwards, download offline maps before you travel.
