When you come through arrivals at Dublin Airport, your driver will already be there waiting - standing at your specific arrivals gate with a card showing your name. If your flight is delayed, they’ll wait. You’ll be escorted to a comfortable, air-conditioned car for the two-hour journey west to Galway.
It’s a private transfer, so it’s just your group in the vehicle. No sharing with strangers, no unexpected detours.
Galway drops you into a city that is still medieval at its core - Shop Street, Quay Street, and the laneways off them are narrow, cobbled, and designed for people, not cars. Give your driver your exact accommodation address and they’ll work out the best approach. Most places in the centre are a short walk from the nearest drop point.
With a two-hour journey from Dublin, you’ll arrive with a full afternoon or evening ahead of you. The Galway City Loop walk - from Eyre Square to the Long Walk along the harbour and back through the laneways - takes around 90 minutes, covers 4 km, and gets you properly oriented before you find dinner.
The trad sessions are the real thing here. Tigh Coili runs a nightly session with high-standard players in the Irish-language tradition - arrive by 9:30pm for a seat. The Crane Bar is three storeys and feels like a village pub; the session there has a different crowd from the tourist-facing spots on Shop Street.
If you’re planning to visit the Aran Islands, Rossaveal is 40 minutes west of Galway. Build the ferry trip as a day from your Galway base rather than trying to rush it.
