Four days is the right amount of time to do the southwest of Ireland properly, and this tour is designed to use every one of them well. You take the train from Dublin to Mallow in County Cork, where Killarney Guided Tours meets your arrival. From there, it’s three nights in Killarney with two full days of touring before heading north to the Cliffs of Moher on the way to Galway. You can either overnight in Galway at the end or continue back to Dublin by train - whichever suits your plans.
You travel in a fully private, air-conditioned executive van with individual captain’s chairs. It’s comfortable enough that the journey itself is part of the experience rather than something to get through. Your guide is Fáilte Ireland qualified, and all fuel, tolls, taxes, fees, and handling charges are covered throughout. The tour can also run in reverse if that fits your itinerary better.
This is a fully private tour throughout - no sharing with other groups.
This tour begins at Mallow Train Station, County Cork. Your guide will meet your incoming Dublin to Mallow train. You’ll need to book your own train tickets to Mallow and let Killarney Guided Tours know your arrival time in advance. Infant seats are available, service animals are welcome, and the tour is suitable for all fitness levels. Conducted in English.
Mallow is about 2 hours by train from Dublin Heuston, and the ride down through County Tipperary is genuinely scenic. It’s worth booking your rail tickets early, especially in summer, and giving Killarney Guided Tours your exact arrival time so they can be on the platform waiting.
Three nights in Killarney gives you time to actually settle in rather than rushing. The town itself has good restaurants and traditional music sessions most evenings. Your guide can point you toward the best spots, which change a bit with the season - the pubs on High Street and around the town centre are reliable for trad sessions later in the week.
Blarney Castle is about 30 minutes from Cork city. If you want to kiss the Blarney Stone, expect a queue and a slightly awkward lean backwards over a parapet - but it’s one of those things that’s more fun than it sounds. The grounds around the castle are genuinely beautiful and often quieter than the castle itself.
The Cliffs of Moher are most dramatic in the morning light before the day-trip coaches arrive. Your guide will know the timing and the best viewing points, including some that most visitors walk straight past. Entrance fees are not included, so it’s worth knowing the current prices and having cash or card ready.
If you’d like to run the tour in reverse - starting in Galway and finishing in Mallow - just ask when you book. Killarney Guided Tours are flexible on the direction and can advise on which way works better depending on where you’re based and where you’re heading next.
