Your chauffeur will meet you in the arrivals hall at Dublin Airport, or at your Dublin City address, and take you and your luggage directly to Wexford. The drive runs around two hours on the M11 south, and you’ve got the whole vehicle to yourselves - no other passengers, no stops you didn’t ask for.
The same transfer runs in reverse if you need to get back to Dublin City or the airport. Just let the operator know your pick-up location when you book the return.
This is a private transfer conducted in English. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller. Public transport options are available nearby. Suitable for all fitness levels.
Wexford is one of Ireland’s oldest towns, founded by the Vikings around the 9th century. The name comes from the Old Norse Veisafjordr - “inlet of the mudflats” - and the harbour town character is still very much present today. The narrow main street, called South Main Street, follows the original Viking layout, and the town’s medieval walls are partly preserved in places you’ll stumble across on a short walk.
The route south from Dublin on the M11 is one of Ireland’s better motorway drives. It passes through the gentle hills of north Wicklow before skirting the coast at Arklow and dropping down toward Gorey and the Wexford border. On a clear day you can catch glimpses of the sea to your left as you come through County Wicklow. The landscape opens up considerably once you cross into Wexford, with wide, flat farmland rolling toward the coast.
Wexford town sits at the top of a long estuary, and the quayside is the natural centre of town life. The Wexford Harbour bar pilots still operate from here, and the tall ships occasionally call in during summer. The Westgate Heritage Tower is one of the better-preserved pieces of the old town walls and worth a look if you’ve got time before checking in.
County Wexford’s beaches are excellent and often overlooked. Curracloe Beach, about ten kilometres north of Wexford town, is one of the longest sandy beaches in Ireland and was used as a filming location for the opening of Saving Private Ryan. Rosslare Strand to the south is sunnier than most of Ireland thanks to Wexford’s mild southeast microclimate. If you’re using Wexford town as a base for the county, a car is handy for reaching the beaches but the town itself is very walkable.
