Local Tips

BHD is Belfast’s city airport - not the international one. George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD) is located about 3 miles east of Belfast city centre. Belfast International Airport (BFS) is a separate facility near Aldergrove, about 14 miles northwest of the city. Before you book, double-check your flight confirmation for the airport code. If it says “BHD”, you’re in the right place.

The drive goes through the border, but you won’t notice it. The route from Dublin north to Belfast crosses from the Republic into Northern Ireland. There are no stops, no passport checks and no toll booths specific to the crossing. Your driver makes this run regularly. It’s a smooth motorway journey for most of the distance.

Allow time on both ends. The transfer takes around 1 hour 50 minutes, but factor in any time needed to collect luggage at Dublin Airport before your pickup if that’s relevant to your itinerary. Belfast City Airport recommends arriving at least 90 minutes before your flight, so work backwards from there when planning your pickup time.

Luggage allowance per passenger is one standard suitcase at a maximum of 46x69x29cm / 18x27x11in. If your group has extra or oversized bags from an Irish stay, note it at booking so the correct vehicle size is arranged and any additional charges are flagged in advance.
