Dublin To Cliffs of Moher Private Deluxe Tour

About This Tour

The Cliffs of Moher are one of those places that genuinely lives up to the hype. Rising 214 metres above the Atlantic, they stretch for eight kilometres along the Clare coastline, and on a clear day you can see all the way to the Aran Islands and the mountains of Connemara. This private deluxe tour gets you there and back in a day from Dublin, without the crowds of a coach tour.

Your chauffeur collects you from your hotel and heads west through a landscape that shifts from gentle midland pastures to the wild, windswept coast of County Clare. At the Cliffs of Moher, you have a full three hours to walk the trails, explore the visitor centre, and simply stand in awe at one of the most dramatic coastal views on the planet. The scale is hard to comprehend until you’re standing at the edge.

On the way back, the route follows stretches of the Wild Atlantic Way with photo stops at viewpoints that most coach tours drive straight past. A detour to a local organic chocolate factory adds a sweet contrast to the raw Atlantic scenery. With a maximum of just three guests, this feels less like a tour and more like having your own personal guide to the west of Ireland.

The chauffeur and vehicle are fully licensed by the Irish Government Transport Authority. Child and infant seats are available on request.

Local Tips

Three hours at the cliffs is the real advantage of this tour. Coach tours typically allow two hours; this one gives you a full three. That’s enough time to walk south along the cliff trail toward Hag’s Head (a lower, quieter section of the cliffs with fewer visitors), return to the Visitor Centre, and still spend unhurried time at O’Brien’s Tower. If wildlife is a priority, bring binoculars - puffins are present from April to August, and basking sharks appear offshore in summer.

Book the earliest possible departure. The Cliffs of Moher get busy from mid-morning year-round. Arriving before 11am, especially in summer, means the trail viewpoints are quieter and the light is at its most photogenic. With a private car from Dublin, an early departure is straightforward - ask your chauffeur to advise based on conditions and traffic.

Ask your chauffeur about the return route. The Wild Atlantic Way photo stops vary depending on conditions and time, but the coastal roads of north Clare between the cliffs and the Galway border have viewpoints that most vehicles never stop at. With maximum three guests and a full day, you have room to ask for the scenic option rather than the motorway return.

The chocolate factory is a genuine pause. A stop at a local organic chocolate factory sits well between the cliffs and Dublin - it breaks the return journey and gives you something to bring home. Irish craft chocolate has grown significantly as an industry; what you’ll find here is genuinely made rather than mass-produced, and the tastings are the point.

Know where the cliff walk begins at the southern end. The Hag’s Head trail that your tour gives you time to walk actually starts above Liscannor - a small working pier village eight kilometres south of the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre. The path runs from the Moher Tower car park on the R478 north of the village up to the visitor centre. Liscannor itself has Vaughan’s Anchor Inn, a Michelin-recommended seafood kitchen three generations in the same family. If you’re extending your day or planning a return trip, it’s the base for the quiet end of the cliffs.

The cliff walk’s northern trailhead is above Doolin. Six kilometres north of the visitor centre, Doolin is where the coastal path continues beyond the Cliffs of Moher toward Doolin Point and the harbour. It’s also where the Aran Islands ferries leave from - Inis Oírr is twenty minutes by boat. Gus O’Connor’s pub on Fisher Street has been running sessions since 1832, and Homestead Cottage earned a Michelin star within seven months of opening in 2023. Worth knowing about for a longer stay in Clare.
