Dublin To Downings County Donegal Private Car Transfer

About This Tour

Your chauffeur will be in the arrivals hall with your name card, or at your Dublin city pickup point - whichever suits you. Flights are monitored electronically so the timing adjusts around your actual arrival, and you get a full hour of complimentary waiting time at the airport.

The transfer runs in a Mercedes Benz E220 Executive Class, which comfortably carries up to 3 passengers with standard luggage - that’s 2 x 20kg cases plus 2 small suitcases. Both the vehicle and chauffeur are fully licensed and insured in accordance with the Irish Government Transport Authority.

Downings is a fishing village on the Rosguill Peninsula in north Donegal. It’s about as far from Dublin as you can get while staying on the island, and the journey through counties Monaghan, Cavan, and Donegal is a good part of the experience.

Local Tips

The three-hour journey time assumes reasonable traffic conditions and applies to the main route north through Cavan and Letterkenny. In summer, the road through Donegal town can back up, and the final stretch along the Rosguill Peninsula involves some narrow roads. Your driver will know the best approach, but if you’re arriving in the evening and want to get settled before dark, a mid-afternoon Dublin departure works well.

Downings village is small - the main facilities are the pier, a small convenience shop, and a couple of pubs. If you need a pharmacy, cash from an ATM, or a larger supermarket, Carrigart (5km away) or Milford (about 20km south) are your closest options. It’s worth picking up anything you need before leaving the Letterkenny area if you’re planning to stay in the village for a few days.

The Atlantic Drive around the Rosguill Peninsula is one of the better scenic drives in Ireland and is most easily done by car or by bicycle if you’re staying a few nights. The loop takes about an hour by car and passes some dramatic cliff views, small beaches, and the ruins of Doe Castle at the base of the peninsula. Your chauffeur can drop you at the start of the loop if you want to walk part of it.

If you’re travelling as a group of 4 to 6 passengers, the car transfer with up to 3 passengers may not be the right fit - the MPV option on this route accommodates more passengers and more luggage in a single vehicle, which avoids the need to split a group or compromise on luggage. For 1 to 3 travellers with standard bags, the Mercedes E220 is well sized for the journey.
