Ashford Castle is on the southern shore of Lough Corrib in County Mayo, about a 3-hour drive from Dublin under normal conditions. The approach to the castle along the R345 through Cong village is one of those arrival moments that stays with you - the estate comes into view gradually and it’s genuinely impressive even if you’ve seen photos in advance.
