Celtic Day Trip from Dublin with Spanish-Speaking Guide

About This Tour

Getting out of Dublin on a Saturday and spending the day at some of Ireland’s most significant ancient sites — in Spanish, with a guide who’s there to explain everything — is a particularly good use of a day in the country.

This 9-hour tour departs from central Dublin in the morning and heads north and west into the quieter rural countryside. You’ll visit Loughcrew, where Neolithic hilltop passage tombs sit looking out over Meath farmland, then Trim Castle — one of the most commanding Anglo-Norman castles in Ireland. The Hill of Tara follows, the ancient ceremonial and political heart of the island where the High Kings of Ireland were inaugurated. The day ends at Monasterboice, one of the country’s finest early Christian monastic sites, before the drive back to Dublin in the early evening.

The group is capped at 20 people, which keeps the whole day feeling genuinely small. You’re with a guide who speaks Spanish throughout, so nothing gets lost in translation and you’re free to ask questions as they come up.

Local Tips

Loughcrew requires a light uphill walk to reach the passage tombs. It’s not strenuous, but the path can be muddy in wet weather and the hilltop is exposed — bring a layer you can pull on quickly. The views from the top stretch across several counties on a clear day, and the tombs themselves are genuinely striking up close, older than the pyramids by several centuries.

Trim has 90 minutes of free time alongside the castle visit. The town is small and easy to walk — the castle grounds are extensive and worth exploring at your own pace once the guided section is done. There’s a good stretch of the River Boyne running alongside the castle walls that’s worth walking. Bring your own lunch or plan to eat in town during the free time, as food and drinks aren’t included.

The Hill of Tara is deceptively understated. It looks, from a distance, like a gently rolling field. But standing on it and understanding what happened here — political inaugurations, seasonal assemblies, centuries of symbolic importance — completely changes the experience. Your guide carries that context in Spanish, which makes a significant difference on a site where the landscape itself is the monument.

Monasterboice has some of the finest high crosses in Ireland. The carved stone crosses are remarkably well preserved and the iconography is dense — your guide can walk you through the biblical scenes depicted, which is worth taking time over. The round tower on the site is also one of the better examples in the country.

Pack for Irish weather regardless of the forecast. This tour runs in all conditions, and the rural midlands can be significantly colder and wetter than Dublin city on the same day. Waterproof layers and good walking shoes are the most important things to get right.
