Local Tips

Bellinter House is a Palladian country house in the Boyne Valley, near Navan in Co. Meath. The house dates to 1750 and sits in its own grounds beside the River Boyne. It operates as a boutique hotel and spa, and the setting along the river is genuinely peaceful - it’s the kind of place that feels removed from the world without being far from Dublin at all.

Newgrange is about 20 minutes away. The Bru na Boinne visitor complex covers Newgrange and Knowth, two of the most significant Neolithic passage tombs in Europe. Newgrange predates the Egyptian pyramids by around 500 years, and the winter solstice alignment of the entrance passage is one of those things that’s genuinely worth knowing before you visit - it changes how you look at the place. Book ahead, especially in summer.

The Hill of Tara is a short drive south. Tara was the ceremonial seat of the High Kings of Ireland and the site has layers of history going back to the Bronze Age. The views from the top on a clear day take in much of the midlands - it’s a good place to get a sense of the Irish landscape’s scale and openness.

Navan town is close for essentials. If you need a pharmacy, a supermarket, or somewhere to eat that isn’t the hotel, Navan is the nearest town. It’s a working market town - not a tourist hub - and the food options along the main street are a good mix of straightforward and decent.
