A clean start or finish to your stay at Johnstown Estate. Your chauffeur meets you in the arrivals hall at Dublin Airport or comes to your Dublin City address, loads up your bags, and takes you directly to Johnstown Estate in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. All fees and taxes are covered, so there’s nothing extra to sort at the end.
The journey is under an hour. For the return, book the same transfer separately and give the operator your pick-up time and location at the estate.
Johnstown Estate is a five-star hotel and spa in Enfield, Co. Meath, about 45 minutes west of Dublin Airport. It’s set in mature grounds and draws a mix of leisure guests, wedding parties, and golfers. The spa is a serious operation - book treatments in advance if they’re part of your plan, particularly over weekends.
Trim Castle is 20 minutes away and well worth the stop. It’s the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland, built by Hugh de Lacy in the late 12th century, and it’s striking in person. The walls and keep are in good condition and the guided tours give you a proper sense of the scale and history. Mel Gibson filmed scenes from Braveheart on site in 1994, which the town references without excessive ceremony.
The Hill of Tara is within easy reach. About 30 minutes from Johnstown Estate, Tara was the ceremonial and political centre of ancient Ireland, associated with the High Kings. The earthworks on the hilltop are less dramatic in photographs than they are in person - the sense of space and the views across the midlands make it worth the visit.
Lough Ennel is nearby for a lake walk. The lake is about 25 minutes south near Mullingar, and the shoreline walks around it are flat, quiet, and give you a genuine sense of the Irish midland landscape at its most open and unhurried.
