About

Ashford Castle in Cong is one of Ireland’s great properties - a 13th-century castle on the shores of Lough Corrib, now a five-star hotel and the kind of place that sets the tone for a stay the moment you pull through the gates. Arriving by private chauffeur is a fitting way to begin.

DM Executive Line covers the roughly 2 hours 45 minutes from Dublin Airport or Dublin City to Cong in a modern Mercedes-Benz with a certified professional driver. Your chauffeur tracks your flight and meets you at hotel reception - no standing outside with your bags trying to spot a car. A 15-minute service stop is included for the journey, and airport pickups come with 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The price you book is the price you pay.

Local Tips

Cong village is worth a slow walk. Just outside the castle gates, Cong is a small, quiet village with proper 12th-century abbey ruins right in the centre. The village was also the filming location for The Quiet Man (1952) and still wears that connection lightly - there’s a small museum if you want the full story, and the original cottage used in the film is nearby.

Lough Corrib is one of Ireland’s great loughs. At 176 square kilometres, it’s the largest lake in the Republic, and the castle sits right on its edge. The hotel offers fishing on the lough - pike, perch and brown trout are all present - along with falconry, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding on the estate. You don’t have to leave the grounds to fill a day.

Galway city is 40 minutes by road. If you want a city day, Galway is one of Ireland’s most distinctive - compact, very walkable and with a strong live music tradition that doesn’t feel manufactured for tourists. Shop Street and the Latin Quarter are the heart of it, and the weekend market behind St Nicholas’ Church is one of the better ones in the country.

The drive along Lough Mask is part of the experience. The road from Ballinrobe to Cong runs alongside Lough Mask before opening out toward the castle, and it’s a beautiful stretch. If you’re coming in decent weather and your driver takes that route, the approach to Ashford is one of those arrivals that stays with you.
