Local Tips

Druid Glen sits in the Vale of Avoca area of County Wicklow, and the surrounding countryside is some of the most scenic in Leinster. The resort’s two golf courses - Druid’s Glen and Druid’s Heath - are both rated among the best parkland courses in Ireland, so if you’re here for golf you’re in good hands. Tee time booking is worth doing well in advance, particularly in summer.

Wicklow town is about 15 minutes from the resort if you want to explore beyond the grounds. The Wicklow Gaol heritage attraction on Kilmantin Hill is a genuinely interesting museum covering the dark history of transportation to Australia in the 1800s. Wicklow town itself has a small harbour and a few good local cafes if you want a half-day out.

The Vale of Avoca is a short drive south, and the confluence of the Avore and Avonmore rivers there is genuinely worth stopping for. This is the area Thomas Moore wrote about in “The Meeting of the Waters” and it’s been a scenic landmark since the 18th century. Avoca village has a working woollen mill - the oldest in Ireland still operating - and a good cafe.

For an easy evening walk, the woodland trails in and around the resort are well-maintained and clearly signed. The Wicklow Way long-distance trail passes nearby if you want something longer, and the village of Newtown Mount Kennedy is a short drive if you need a supermarket or pharmacy.
