Local Tips

Howth is a popular base for exploring north County Dublin. The DART train runs from Howth station into the city centre in about 30 minutes, so you’re well connected even without a car. The station is a short walk from the harbour and most accommodation in the village.

The cliff walk is best in dry weather. If you’re planning to do the Howth Cliff Walk, it’s genuinely worth checking the forecast before you set off. The paths are uneven in places and can get slippery after rain. Proper footwear is worth having in your bag.

Arriving with a lot of luggage. The Mercedes MPV and Chrysler Voyager can handle a group with significant luggage, but if you’re travelling with sports equipment, oversized bags, or more than standard suitcases, mention it when you book so the right vehicle is confirmed.

Seafood on the pier. The restaurants along Howth Harbour do good fresh fish and shellfish. They’re busiest at weekends, so if you’re arriving on a Friday evening and planning to eat out, booking ahead is worth doing.
