Your professional chauffeur meets you at the arrivals terminal or at your Dublin city location and takes care of your luggage while you settle in. From there it’s around an hour south to Ballyfin Demesne in County Laois, an air-conditioned vehicle with WiFi and bottled water throughout. All fees and taxes are included in the price.
The same transfer can be booked for the return journey back to Dublin city or Dublin Airport. Just provide your pickup details when booking.
This is a private transfer, so it’s your group only. Infants can travel in a pram or stroller. Public transport options are available nearby. Suitable for all fitness levels.
Ballyfin keeps guest numbers deliberately low. The house takes a maximum of 15 rooms, which means the ratio of staff to guests is unusually high. It’s part of what makes the place feel different from a standard country house hotel. Don’t expect a busy lobby or a bar full of strangers.
The Slieve Bloom Mountains are right on the doorstep. The range runs along the County Laois and Offaly border about 20 minutes from the house. There are marked walking trails from Glenbarrow and Kinnitty that cover decent ground without requiring serious hill experience. The views across the midland plain from the ridge are some of the best in the midlands.
County Laois is genuinely underexplored. Most visitors to Ireland pass through the midlands on the M7 without stopping. The Rock of Dunamase, a ruined castle on a limestone outcrop near Portlaoise, is visible from the motorway and worth the short detour. It’s a 15-minute drive from Ballyfin.
The house’s lake and parkland are part of the experience. Ballyfin sits in 614 acres of restored Regency parkland, and walking the grounds in the early morning is one of the better ways to spend an hour before breakfast. The lake is stocked for fishing if that’s your interest, and the head gardener tends the walled garden daily.
