Local Tips

Head straight to your meeting point once you’re through customs. In Terminal 1, that’s the Insomnia Coffee Shop in arrivals - it’s well signposted. In Terminal 2, look for the yellow sculpture in the arrivals area. Both are easy to find without needing to wander the terminal. If your flight is delayed, your driver will be tracking it.

Luggage allowance is 1 piece per person, 3 pieces maximum. If you’ve packed heavily or you’re travelling with more bags than people, worth knowing in advance. A standard checked bag per person is the working assumption. Very large or irregular luggage (ski bags, golf clubs, etc.) is worth flagging when you book.

Traffic into Dublin can vary a lot. The 30-minute journey time holds up in normal conditions, but the M1 and city approaches slow down noticeably during rush hours - roughly 7:30 to 9:30 in the morning and 4:30 to 7:00 in the evening. If you’re arriving at those times, factor in a little extra. Your driver will know the best route on the day.

Let your driver know your drop-off location clearly. Dublin’s city centre has a lot of streets that look different on a map than they are in real life - one-way systems, pedestrian zones, and loading restrictions all affect where you can actually stop. A hotel name is usually enough, but if you’re going somewhere less obvious, have the full address ready.

Consider your first meal once you arrive. After a long flight, the stretch between landing and getting to your accommodation can feel longer than it is. If you’re arriving in the morning, the area around Grafton Street has several good spots for breakfast or coffee before you check in. Your driver will likely know a few options if you ask.

Nearby on IrelandMe

  • Dublin - the city centre is your destination, and there’s more than enough to keep you busy from the first afternoon onwards
  • Howth - if you land early and your accommodation isn’t ready until the afternoon, this fishing village on the northern edge of Dublin Bay is about 25 minutes from the airport and a far better way to spend a few hours than sitting in a hotel lobby
