Ashford Castle sits on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, County Mayo - about three hours from Dublin by road. This private chauffeur transfer gets you there without any stress, whether you’re coming off a flight or starting from the city centre.
Your driver is licensed by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and fully insured. If you’re flying in, they’ll monitor your flight in real time so delays or early arrivals don’t leave anyone waiting in the wrong place. On arrival at the airport, look for a driver holding a sign with your name.
You can choose from a Mercedes S-Class, V-Class (7-seater), or Toyota Alphard depending on your group size and preference. Pickup is door-to-door from any location you choose, and the price covers all tolls and car park fees.
The drive west is part of the experience. Once you’re past the M6 and into Galway and Mayo, the landscape changes dramatically - big skies, bogs, stone walls, and Lough Corrib coming into view as you approach Cong. It’s worth asking your driver to take the scenic approach through the village rather than the back gates, especially if it’s your first time.
Cong village is worth ten minutes on foot. The transfer will bring you to the castle, but if you have any flexibility in arrival time, a short stop in Cong is lovely. The village itself is tiny - you can see the ruined Cong Abbey and the River Cong in a short stroll - and it’s where John Ford filmed The Quiet Man in 1951, which locals are still quietly proud of.
Ashford Castle’s grounds are open to walk before check-in. If you arrive early, the estate paths around Lough Corrib are accessible to guests. The jetty walk and the walled garden are both worth doing before you’ve even unpacked.
Book your activities at the castle before you arrive. The castle offers falconry, archery, clay pigeon shooting, and boat trips on Lough Corrib, but spaces fill up - especially in summer and at weekends. A quick call ahead means you won’t be disappointed on the day.
The N84 back toward Dublin through Ballinrobe is quieter than the main route. If you’re doing a return transfer, it’s worth asking your driver about the route options. The roads through south Mayo are some of the most beautiful in Connacht and add very little to the journey time.
