What to Expect

Bonagee United kick off the first-ever season of the FAI National League at home, hosting Dublin side Home Farm DCU at Dry Arch Park on Saturday 29 August at 5:00pm. The National League is a brand new third tier introduced for 2026, sitting below the League of Ireland, with 15 founding clubs split into three groups of five playing home and away across ten rounds; the three group winners plus the best runner-up go forward to semi-finals, with the final set for November 2026. Bonagee’s senior side previously played in the Donegal Junior League Premier Division, so this is a significant step up in grade, and it gives Letterkenny a genuinely national fixture on its own doorstep. Two other Donegal clubs, Letterkenny Rovers and Cockhill Celtic, are also in the new league’s group stage, including a Donegal derby against Cockhill on the fixture list later in the season. The wider group draws Bonagee opponents from Dublin, Galway and further afield across its ten rounds, giving Letterkenny visiting clubs it would not normally see on a typical home fixture list built around regional Ulster football.
