Ballinamallard United v Newry City, NIFL Championship

At Ferney Park · Enniskillen Road, Ballinamallard, Co. Fermanagh, BT94 2HH

Ferney Park, home ground of Ballinamallard United

Ballinamallard United, County Fermanagh’s only senior football club, open their 2026-27 NIFL Championship campaign at home to Newry City at Ferney Park on Saturday, 8 August 2026, kick-off 3:00pm. It is the first of a run of home dates that also brings Dundela to Ferney Park on 22 August and Annagh United on 29 August, in between away trips to Institute and Moyola Park.

What to expect

Ballinamallard United were reformed in 1975 after years dormant and went on to become the first club from County Fermanagh to reach senior football in Northern Ireland, winning promotion to the top-flight Premiership in 2012. Their high point came in 2019, when they reached the Irish Cup final for the first time, losing 3-0 to Crusaders. The club has since settled in the second-tier Championship, finishing 10th of 12 in the 2025-26 season, and this fixture against a Newry City side they will have met regularly in recent campaigns marks the reset of the table for a new season. Expect a proper Championship-level contest at a compact ground with a capacity of around 2,000, including 250 seated, a world away from Premiership crowds but a serious step up from junior and intermediate football. Home advantage matters at Ferney Park, where the club has traditionally been hardest to beat.

Getting there

Ferney Park is on the Enniskillen Road in Ballinamallard, a small village a short drive west of Enniskillen on the road toward Irvinestown and Kesh. There is parking near the ground, and the venue is a straightforward stop for anyone travelling by car from the county town.
