Bundoran Promenade Parkrun

What to Expect

Bundoran Promenade parkrun is a free, timed 5k held every Saturday morning along Bundoran’s seafront, with Donegal Bay on one side and the town’s promenade and amusements on the other. Like all parkruns it is entirely volunteer run, from the marshals on the course to whoever is scanning finish tokens that week, and it depends on local runners taking a turn to organise it as well as run it. The out-and-back route takes in the Rougey Cliff Walk stretch of coastline, giving it a reputation as one of the more scenic parkrun courses on the Wild Atlantic Way, with views out over the bay towards Mullaghmore on a clear morning. It draws a mix of serious club runners doing a fast time trial and families walking the route together, since parkrun times only matter to the people who want them to. Bundoran’s reputation as a surfing and activity town means the parkrun regularly picks up visiting runners who are in the area for the weekend, alongside its core group of local regulars, so the field size can vary noticeably with the tourist season.

• Free to take part; first-time participants register once at parkrun.ie and bring a barcode, printed or on a phone, to receive an official finish time.
• Volunteers are needed most weeks; anyone who would rather marshal than run can sign up through the event’s parkrun.ie page in advance.
• Results, photos and a written run report are posted on the event’s parkrun.ie page after each Saturday’s run.
• Being right on the seafront, conditions can be breezy even on a calm day inland, so it is worth checking the forecast before setting out.
• As with every parkrun, the event can be cancelled at short notice in severe weather; check the event’s parkrun.ie page or social media on the morning if conditions look poor.

The parkrun starts on the promenade in the centre of Bundoran, within walking distance of the town’s hotels, guesthouses and main street.
