The Belvoir Players Academy brings the Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen to Belfast for its Northern Ireland premiere, running at the Belvoir Studio Theatre from 15 to 18 July 2026. The show follows Evan Hansen, a socially anxious teenager whose small lie spirals into something far bigger after a classmate’s death - pulling him into a family’s grief and onto social media in ways he never anticipated. It is a sharp, emotionally honest piece that deals with loneliness, mental health, and the gap between how we present ourselves online and who we really are. With a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (the pair behind La La Land and The Greatest Showman), the songs are memorable and the material hits hard. This is a youth theatre production in the best sense - young performers who have earned their place on the stage.
The cast are senior members of the Belvoir Players Academy, a musical theatre company for young people aged 6 to 18, trained in acting, singing, and dance by professional musical directors and choreographers. Productions here are full-scale - professional band, custom-designed sets, proper costumes - not a school concert. The Academy has been building towards productions of this ambition for years, and Dear Evan Hansen is one of the more demanding musicals in the contemporary repertoire. Running Wednesday to Saturday, there are evening performances at 7:30pm each night, with a matinee at 3:00pm on the Saturday. Seating at the Studio Theatre is in a compact 200-seat auditorium, so there is no bad view in the house.
