Buncrana Music Festival 2026

At Buncrana Shore Front · Shore Front, Buncrana, Co. Donegal

Buncrana Music Festival 2026 big top tent overlooking Lough Swilly

Now in its ninth year, the Buncrana Music Festival draws music fans from across Donegal and beyond for three days of live performances under its famous Big Top tent on the Shore Front. The setting alone is worth the trip - the tent sits right beside Lough Swilly, and on a bright July evening the view across the water is genuinely hard to beat. It suits festival-goers who want the full weekend experience with camping on site, a good range of food and drink, and a lineup that mixes local talent with national and international acts.

What to expect

The festival runs from Friday 10 July to Sunday 12 July, with live music each evening under the Big Top. Saturday 11 July is designated Irish Day, with a programme leaning into traditional and Irish music - confirmed artists for that day include Eimhear Ní Ghlacaín & Band, Irish Brigade New Era, Gary Óg, and Katelin Tierney. Friday and Sunday acts are announced separately closer to the date, so check the festival website for updates. Past editions have brought well-known international acts alongside homegrown talent, so the full bill is usually worth keeping an eye on as it builds.

On site you will find bar services, food vendors serving local food and drink, and facilities for campers and campervans. There is also a funfair. The organisers describe it as family friendly, and the Shore Front location means there is space to move around outside the tent between sets.

Getting there

Buncrana sits on the western shore of the Inishowen Peninsula, about 25 km north of Letterkenny. From Letterkenny, take the N13 north towards Derry, then branch off onto the R238 or N305 towards Buncrana - the drive takes around 25 minutes. From Derry city, Buncrana is roughly 20 km west via the R238 across the border; it is one of the more accessible Donegal towns from the north-west. There is no direct rail connection; Bus Éireann services run to the Inishowen area via Letterkenny. During a weekend festival, on-site or nearby Shore Front parking fills quickly - arriving earlier in the evening gives you more options. The town centre is walkable from the Shore Front, so parking near the town works fine too.

While you’re in Buncrana

The town has a decent stretch of beach at Ned’s Point and Lough Swilly is one of the more scenic inlets on the whole island, particularly in summer evening light. If you are camping for the weekend you will have time to explore both. There is more to see in Buncrana and across Co. Donegal.
