The Mary From Dungloe International Arts Festival is one of the longest-running summer festivals in the northwest of Ireland, going since 1967 and drawing visitors from across the Irish diaspora every July. The Food and Drinks Fayre runs as part of the wider ten-day programme and gives Donegal’s food and drink producers - along with some of the county’s top chefs - a proper showcase. If you enjoy good food, a lively atmosphere and the chance to sample things you won’t easily find elsewhere, this is a worthwhile afternoon out.
The Fayre brings together a wide spread of Donegal producers under one roof. Past editions have featured craft distilleries including Croithlí Distillery (single malt whiskey), local breweries such as Errigal Brewing Company with their Anagaire Pale Ale, artisan food makers like Filligans jams and chutneys, Donegal Chocolate Man, Donegal Sea Salt, Donegal Rapeseed Oil, oyster stalls, cured meats and kombucha producers alongside more familiar names. Chefs take to a stage throughout the afternoon to demonstrate recipes and talk about the produce they use. The 2025 Fayre was supported by the Donegal Food Coast and operated from the Waterfront Hotel area of the town. Expect a similar set-up in 2026 - it is a relaxed, mingle-and-taste format rather than a sit-down event. The full programme typically goes up on the official festival site closer to the dates.
Dungloe sits on the N56 coastal route in the Rosses area of west Donegal, roughly 50km west of Letterkenny and about 80km northwest of Sligo town. By car, the most straightforward approach from Dublin or Belfast is via Letterkenny; the N56 from there runs through Glenties and into Dungloe. Bus Éireann serves Dungloe on the Galway - Letterkenny - Dungloe route (check current timetables at buseireann.ie). Parking in town is generally on-street; the festival brings extra footfall so arriving early in the day is sensible.
The Rosses coastline is worth extra time - the ferry from Burtonport, just a few kilometres north, runs regularly to Arranmore Island throughout the summer. There is more to see in Dungloe and across Co. Donegal.
