Donegal Junior A Football Championship 2026

At Convoy GAA grounds · Convoy, Co. Donegal

Donegal Junior A Football Championship match action

Donegal’s Junior A Football Championship, the third tier of the county’s club football pyramid, continues its group stage on 9 August 2026. In Group B, Naomh Mhuire Conmhaigh (Convoy) host Letterkenny Gaels at their home grounds in Convoy.

What to Expect

Junior A sits below Senior and Intermediate in Donegal’s club structure, and is contested by clubs aiming for promotion and, ultimately, a shot at higher grades. Alongside the Convoy fixture, Group A sees Naomh Colmcille (Newtowncunningham) host Roibeard Eimid/Robert Emmets at their home ground. Both ties are round-robin group games feeding into a knockout stage later in the championship. Junior football in Donegal draws smaller crowds than the senior grade but is no less competitive, with clubs fielding committed panels desperate to climb the ladder. Club committees and volunteers usually run a small tea and sandwich stall at the pitch on championship Sundays, adding to the local, community feel of these fixtures.

Good to Know

  • Date: Sunday 9 August 2026, Junior A Football Championship group stage
  • Time: fixtures from 2:00pm; the Convoy game and the Naomh Colmcille fixture at Newtowncunningham kick off within a couple of hours of each other
  • Venue: Convoy GAA grounds (featured fixture); a second group game is played at Naomh Colmcille’s home ground in Newtowncunningham
  • Admission: normal club gate admission, no advance ticketing for group games
  • The competition runs as a group stage into quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final over the coming weeks, with promotion to Junior B or Intermediate on offer for the strongest performers

Getting There

Convoy is a small east Donegal village on the R236, roughly midway between Raphoe and Letterkenny, with parking available at the pitch on match days. Newtowncunningham lies just off the N13 Letterkenny to Derry road, making both grounds an easy drive from Letterkenny or the wider Inishowen and east Donegal area. Neither village has a rail link, so a car or the local Bus Éireann service to Letterkenny is the practical way to get there.
