Underage hurlers play a Duggan Steel league fixture in Kilkenny

The Duggan Steel U14 and U16 Leagues are Kilkenny’s core underage hurling competitions, running club sides from every corner of the county through a full summer of weekly fixtures. The scale is significant: divisions are graded Roinn A through D by standard, so almost every club in Kilkenny fields a team at U14 or U16 level most weeks.

What to expect

The week of 10 to 12 August 2026 alone carries well over two dozen fixtures. U16 Round 3 games include Dicksboro against Danesfort in Roinn A at Palmerstown, James Stephens against St Martin’s in Roinn A1, Piltown against Kilmacow in Roinn B, and Tullaroan against Slieverue in Roinn C1, all played on Monday 10 August at 7pm. U14 Round 1 fixtures the same evening include Glenmore against Bennettsbridge in Roinn B and O’Loughlin Gaels drawing a bye in Roinn A. More U14 games follow on Tuesday 11 August, including Conahy Shamrocks against John Lockes B at Jenkinstown, and further fixtures continue on Wednesday 12 August across Roinn A, B and C. These are club development leagues rather than ticketed spectator competitions, and matches are open to families and supporters to watch pitch-side, free of charge. The leagues run week after week through the summer months, feeding players into county underage development structures further down the line.

Getting there

Fixtures are played at club grounds right across Kilkenny, from Palmerstown and Larchfield in the city to Tullaroan, Piltown, Jenkinstown, Clara and Dunnamaggin in the county. Check kilkennygaa.ie’s fixtures page for the exact ground for a given match, and allow time to find rural pitches that may have limited signage.

While you’re in Kilkenny

Underage hurling is a good, low-cost way to see the county’s hurling culture up close, and many of the grounds hosting these games sit in villages worth a wander before or after. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
