Donegal Town Eamon Harvey 10K

At Donegal Town · Donegal Town, Co. Donegal

Donegal Town Eamon Harvey 10K

The Donegal Town Eamon Harvey 10K is a road race with proper roots in the community. Organised by Tirchonaill Athletic Club - a club with over 40 years of road racing in Donegal - the event was renamed in honour of a person who gave a lifetime of service to the club, to Irish athletics, and to Donegal Town itself. The race moved to September in 2025, and it now runs alongside a 5km Family Walk, making it genuinely accessible whether you are chasing a personal best or just want a good excuse to be out on a Sunday morning with the town at its best.

What to expect

The 10K route is laid out in two distinct halves. The opening 3km loops through the old town, taking in The Quay, The Diamond, Donegal Castle, the Courthouse and St. Patrick’s Church, and crossing the River Eske twice - so there is plenty to look at while your legs are still fresh. The course then heads south along the N15 toward Tullyearl before turning onto a quieter road that opens up sweeping views of Donegal Bay all the way to the finish line.

Race headquarters is at Abbey Vocational School Gym, which serves as the base for registration, kit drop and post-race gathering. The 5km Family Walk runs on the same day and covers a shorter route, designed for families, supporters and anyone who wants to enjoy the morning at a gentler pace.

Getting there

Donegal Town sits at the junction of several national routes and is easy to reach by car from most of Donegal and the wider north-west. From Letterkenny, it is roughly 45 minutes south on the N15. From Sligo, allow around an hour north on the same road. The town has public car parks near The Diamond and along the quayside - both are within easy walking distance of Abbey Vocational School.

Bus Eireann runs services to Donegal Town from Letterkenny, Sligo and other regional stops; check the current timetable if you are travelling without a car, and factor in an earlier arrival for race-morning registration.

While you’re in Donegal

Donegal Town is a good place to spend a few hours before or after the race. The castle is open to visitors, the quay is worth a walk, and the town has a solid range of cafes and pubs that fill up well on a Sunday. There is more to see in Donegal and across Co. Donegal.
