If you have ever wanted to spend an evening in Las Vegas without leaving Co. Monaghan, this is the night to do it. Ciaran Houlihan placed second at the Images of the King World Championships in Las Vegas, and that level of dedication shows in the performance. The show runs through Elvis’s catalogue of hits from the Vegas years, delivered live by the nine-piece band rather than backing tracks. The Sweet Sensations provide the female harmonies that were part of the original Elvis concerts, giving the sound real depth. Expect smoke effects, flashing lights, and replica stage wear that puts you firmly in the Seventies. The venue is McGettigan’s Nuremore, the reimagined Nuremore Estate on the outskirts of Carrickmacross. The McGettigan Group reopened the old Nuremore Hotel as a lifestyle and leisure resort with a McGettigan’s pub and dedicated event spaces, set across 200 acres of parkland. It is a comfortable, well-run venue for a show like this.
Carrickmacross sits on the N2/N53 road network in south Co. Monaghan, roughly 90 km north of Dublin and about 25 km south of Monaghan town. From Dublin, take the N2 north towards Monaghan and follow signs for Carrickmacross - it is around an hour’s drive. From Belfast, take the A1/N1 south and join the N2 at Castleblayney direction. Bus Eireann serves Carrickmacross on routes connecting Dublin and Monaghan town, though check timetables as evening return options can be limited. Nuremore Estate is on the southern approach to the town; there is ample free parking on site for those driving.
