At Ballyfoyle · Ballyfoyle, Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny
The Ballyfoyle Agricultural Show has been running for over three decades, and it remains one of the most well-rounded country shows in Leinster. Celebrating its 31st year in 2026, it draws livestock farmers, equine enthusiasts, dog handlers, crafters, and families from across Kilkenny and beyond - all for a full Sunday of competition, trade, food, and entertainment. The show ground sits just 6km from Kilkenny City, making it an easy half-day or full-day outing. If you have any interest in rural Ireland, the real working kind, this is a good way to spend a summer Sunday.
The programme packs in a lot. On the equine side, you will find show jumping classes alongside equine showing, working hunter competitions, Irish Draught classes, thoroughbreds, ponies, and brood mares with foals. Sheep classes run through the day, and the dog show draws a lively crowd with pets and cats also welcome in the ring.
Away from the competition rings, a food village serves up something to eat while you take in the atmosphere, with live music and dancing running through the afternoon. Trade stands cover everything from agricultural supplies to local crafts. Children are well catered for - there are art and craft competitions, Lego and baking contests, and a sensory bus for younger or sensory-sensitive visitors. Macra na Feirme displays add a community flavour, and horticulture, home industries, and vintage machinery all feature too.
The gates open at 9:00am, giving you time to get around the rings before the main classes hit their stride mid-morning.
Ballyfoyle village is on the R693, roughly 6km north-east of Kilkenny City. From Kilkenny, follow the Freshford Road out through Ballyfoyle - signposting on the day will guide you from there. Driving is the practical choice; parking on the showgrounds is standard for agricultural shows of this size and is typically managed by stewards on the field.
Bus Eireann serves Kilkenny from Dublin, Cork, and Waterford, but onward transport to the show ground itself is limited - if you are coming from outside Kilkenny City, a car or a pre-arranged lift is the most reliable option.
Kilkenny City is worth a couple of hours before or after the show - the castle, the medieval mile, and the Cathedral are all within walking distance of the centre. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
