Qween - Queen Tribute Show

At Set Theatre Kilkenny · Set Theatre, Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny

Qween Queen tribute band performs at Set Theatre

Qween brings a full two-hour live production of Queen’s greatest hits to Set Theatre Kilkenny - an Irish tribute act that has built a reputation across the country for the depth of detail they put into recreating the theatrical spectacle of a classic Queen concert. If you grew up with Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio, or if you were there for Queen live and want to feel that again, this is a proper night out rather than a background-music affair.

What to expect

Qween have been billing themselves as Europe’s most authentic Queen tribute, and they take that seriously. The show covers the full sweep of the Queen back catalogue - from the anthems you know by heart (Radio Ga Ga, We Will Rock You, Somebody to Love) to the deeper cuts that go down well with real fans. The band performs everything live, replicating the instrumentation, harmonies, and stage personas of the original group. It is a two-hour show, which gives enough room to move through the eras - glam rock through stadium rock - without rushing.

Set Theatre itself is a purpose-built music venue on John Street, designed by the David Collins Studio and opened in 2009 as part of Langtons, one of Kilkenny’s landmark hospitality businesses. It holds up to 400, which keeps things intimate even when the room is full - you are close to the stage, and the sound is set up for live music rather than adapted from a conference space. The venue runs a year-round programme of tribute acts, comedy, and live music, and it has become the default spot in Kilkenny for a reliable night out.

Getting there

Kilkenny is well connected by rail from Dublin Heuston (roughly 90 minutes) and from Waterford (45 minutes). The train station on Dublin Road is about a ten-minute walk from the city centre and John Street. Bus Eireann runs regular services from Dublin, Cork, and Waterford. If you are driving, Kilkenny has several multi-storey and surface car parks in the city centre - the Bateman Quay and Market Cross centres are both a short walk from Set Theatre. John Street itself is pedestrian-friendly in the evening.

While you’re in Kilkenny

Kilkenny city is a compact medieval city with the castle, the Medieval Mile, and a strong food and pub scene all within easy walking distance of each other. A show at Set Theatre sits naturally in a wider evening - dinner at one of the restaurants along High Street or Parliament Street before the doors open at seven. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
