Celebrating Barry - The Ultimate Manilow Tribute Show

Celebrating Barry - The Ultimate Manilow Tribute Show

If you grew up with “Mandy”, “Copacabana” or “Could It Be Magic” on the radio, this is a night worth clearing the diary for. Celebrating Barry brings Wayne Denton - a former TV “New Faces” finalist and one of the UK’s most acclaimed Manilow tribute performers - to the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny City for a full concert experience built around the greatest hits of Barry Manilow. It suits fans of the originals, couples looking for a fun night out, and anyone who simply wants to sing along to songs they already know and love.

What to expect

Wayne Denton performs live with the City Rhythm Orchestra and Inspirations backing singers - this is a full band show, not a karaoke night or backing-track performance. The set draws heavily from Manilow’s Las Vegas “LIVE IN CONCERT” era and covers the classics: “Can’t Smile Without You”, “I Write the Songs”, “Bermuda Triangle”, “Let’s Hang On” and of course “Copacabana (At the Copa)”. Expect big-screen visuals, the legendary replica stage jackets that Manilow fans will recognise immediately, and plenty of singalong moments built into the show.

The Watergate Theatre seats 324 and has an upstairs bar serving wines, teas and snacks during show time - it’s a proper night out rather than a standing-room gig. The atmosphere tends to be warm and participatory, with audience members who know every word making the room feel like a shared occasion rather than a passive spectacle.

Getting there

Kilkenny City is well connected from most of Ireland. By road, the M9 motorway from Dublin brings you into Kilkenny in roughly 90 minutes; from Cork take the N25/N10 east. Bus Eireann runs several daily services between Dublin and Kilkenny, with the journey taking around two hours. The town also has a train station (MacDonagh Junction) with regular services from Dublin Heuston via Kildare, taking just under two hours.

The Watergate Theatre is on Parliament Street, close to the centre of the old town. Parking in Kilkenny is generally straightforward in the evenings - the multi-storey car park at the Market Cross Shopping Centre is a short walk from Parliament Street, and there is on-street parking available on several surrounding roads.

While you’re in Kilkenny

June is a good time to be in Kilkenny - the days are long and the medieval streets and castle are at their best in the evening light. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
