Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship - Group Round 2

At TBC · Limerick

Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship

Six fixtures land on the same Thursday afternoon as the Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship moves into its second round of group stage action. This is club hurling at its most compressed and competitive - Limerick’s senior clubs fighting for knockout places across two groups, all throwing in at noon on 6 August 2026. If you follow any of the clubs involved, or simply want to catch live championship hurling without paying a penny, this is a rare chance to watch genuine county-standard play in a local ground.

What to expect

Round 2 of the group stage sees six matches played simultaneously across club venues in Limerick. Group 1 brings together some of the county’s strongest clubs: Ballybrown face Ahane, Monaleen take on Na Piarsaigh, and Kilmallock meet Doon. Group 2 runs alongside it, with Mungret St Pauls v Patrickswell, Newcastle West v Garryspillane, and Adare v Kildimo Pallaskenry all on the card.

Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock are among the most decorated clubs in the province, and Doon, Patrickswell, and Ahane all carry serious championship pedigree. The Whitebox County Senior Hurling Championship is the main event on the Limerick GAA club calendar - early results here set up or ruin a season. By Round 2 every team is under pressure to perform, which means you can expect sharp, hard hurling from the throw-in.

Venues are yet to be confirmed by the individual clubs, so check the official Limerick GAA website or the club’s social media pages in the days beforehand. Each club typically hosts at their own ground, so if you are following a specific fixture, it is worth knowing which parish you are heading to.

Getting there

Limerick city is well served by Irish Rail from Dublin Heuston (roughly two hours), Cork Kent (about an hour), and Ennis. Bus Eireann and Expressway coaches connect from most major towns. If you are driving, the M7 from Dublin or the N20 from Cork both feed into the city. Club grounds outside the city are spread across the county, so having a car - or sharing with someone who knows where the pitch is - is the practical choice for rural venues. Most club grounds have basic car parking on site or roadside.

While you’re in Limerick

A GAA match day is a good excuse to spend time in the county. Limerick city has a busy food scene and the Hunt Museum and King John’s Castle are easy ways to fill the hours before or after a game. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
