Ray Bubbles - Soap Bubble Extravaganza

At Lime Tree Theatre · Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick, Co. Limerick

Ray Bubbles soap bubble performance

Ray Bubbles is an International Bubbleologist and Guinness World Record holder who has spent years developing a show that is genuinely unlike anything most children - or adults - will have seen on stage. This is not a magician with a bottle of washing-up liquid. The Soap Bubble Extravaganza is a fast-paced, 60-minute performance packed with bubble sculptures, science and spectacle, brought to the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick on Saturday 18 July by Paris Bubble Entertainment. It suits families with children of all ages, and the sensory nature of the show - slow-moving shapes, vivid colours, light catching soap film - makes it particularly well-suited for children who benefit from calm, wonder-led entertainment.

What to expect

Ray works with different gases to build bubble structures you would not think possible: a volcano bubble, a bubble carousel, a ghost made entirely of soap film, and a tornado sealed inside a bubble. The centrepiece of the show is the challenge of creating a square bubble - something that sounds simple and turns out to be anything but. The performance moves quickly, with each trick feeding into the next, and audience members are brought into the action rather than left watching from a distance. Past audiences have included SEND schools and neurodivergent groups across Europe, and the show has built a reputation for holding attention across a very wide age range. The Lime Tree Theatre itself is a 510-seat modern venue on the campus of Mary Immaculate College, well set up for family shows with good sight lines throughout.

Getting there

The Lime Tree Theatre sits on the south side of Limerick city, on the South Circular Road near the MIC campus. By car from Dublin, it is roughly two hours on the M7; from Cork, just under two hours via the N20 or M20. Limerick has Bus Eireann services connecting the city to most of the country, and the city’s train station on Parnell Street is served by Irish Rail intercity routes from Dublin Heuston and Waterford. Local buses run close to the theatre. Car parking is available on campus and along South Circular Road; arrival a little ahead of show time is worth the ease.

While you’re in Limerick

Limerick city is compact enough to cover on foot, with King John’s Castle and the Hunt Museum both close to the city centre, and the Treaty City’s food scene has grown considerably in recent years. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
