At Multiple venues across Limerick city centre · Limerick city centre, Co. Limerick
On the last Thursday of each month, Limerick city centre quietly transforms into something worth going out for. Twilight Thursdays is a free monthly evening programme run by Limerick City and County Council as part of Ireland’s National Night-Time Economy Pilot - and the July edition, falling on Thursday 30 July, is one of the longer summer editions, with evening light lasting until after 9pm. It suits families with kids, couples looking for a proper evening out, and anyone who wants to see Limerick at its most alive without spending much money getting through the door.
The programme spreads across the city centre on foot, so there is no single gate or starting point. Typical fixtures across the series include live music at pubs and venues along Bedford Row and Sarsfield Street, food trails linking local restaurants with specials, cultural events at spots like the Hunt Museum and the People’s Museum of Limerick, and family activity zones with face painters and kids’ entertainers running from around 6pm. Three Bridges is a regular family hub, with activities drawing younger crowds while parents browse nearby food stalls. The Milk Market area has also featured farm and petting zoo experiences in earlier editions. Comedy nights, photography walks, craft workshops, and club nights round out the later evening for adult audiences. Individual events within the programme range from free drop-in to ticketed (typically under €15); the street-level entertainment and most family activities cost nothing. FreeNow and Uber run 40% discount codes for the evening - check the programme page closer to the date. Free parking is typically available at The Potato Market Car Park from 6pm to 9pm. The full July programme is published at limerick.ie/Twilight-Thursdays in the week before each event.
Limerick city centre is two hours from Dublin by Bus Eireann or GoBus from Busaras, and around 40 minutes from Shannon Airport by bus or taxi. On-street parking in the city centre is paid until 6.30pm on weekdays, and The Potato Market Car Park on Mallow Street is typically free for Twilight Thursdays from 6pm - confirm this via the event programme page as it changes by edition.
July in Limerick is good walking weather, and the city repays a bit of time on foot - the Treaty Stone, King John’s Castle, the Georgian quarter around Pery Square, and the riverside walk along the Shannon are all within easy reach of the event zones.
